DILAPIDATIONS

Tenancy dilapidations refer to the repair and maintenance obligations of a tenant under the terms of a lease. A lease is a legal agreement between a landlord and a tenant that sets out the terms of the tenancy, including the tenant’s obligations to maintain and repair the property.

Dilapidations can arise when a tenant fails to carry out necessary repairs or maintenance, or when they cause damage to the property. The landlord has the right to seek compensation from the tenant for any dilapidations, either during the tenancy or at the end of the tenancy when the property is returned to the landlord.

The extent of a tenant’s repair and maintenance obligations will depend on the specific terms of the lease. Some leases may require the tenant to keep the property in good repair and condition, while others may specify particular repairs or maintenance tasks that the tenant is responsible for.
