CONSENT TO LET

Mortgage Knowledge Base

If you wish to move out of your home and let it to tenants you will need to ask your lender for permission.

This permission is known as a consent to let.

Consent to let is a formal agreement between you and your mortgage lender, that grants you permission to temporarily rent out your home. Not all lenders will offer this facility.

You will need to complete a consent to let application and your mortgage account must be up to date with a good payment history. However, lenders will not always grant a request to let.

If they do: They will normally increase the interest rate charged and consent will be limited to 12-24 months

If they don’t: You will need to consider a buy to let remortgage.
