How large is a large mortgage?

Many of the high street lenders will offer maximum mortgages of between £2 – £5 million with differing loan to values (LTV).

In our experience, sophisticated borrowers can benefit from a more personalised service when the loan size exceeds £1m.

In theory there is no maximum loan and our high-net-worth broker team can comfortably source bespoke mortgages of £10m, £25m and above.

How do you find a large mortgage lender?

While some of the high street lenders do offer million pound mortgages they are hard to find and their lending criteria can be rigid and difficult to work with.

When borrowing more than £2 million you will need a specialist adviser as many of the lenders will only work with an intermediary broker. The lenders and private banks that offer large mortgages won’t accept applications direct. All introductions must be from a specialist broker.

A private bank mortgage is a loan that is issued by a private bank, rather than a high street lender.

Private banks are much smaller institutions, and as such, they are often able to offer a more bespoke service to their clients. This can be extremely beneficial for those who have specific requirements or who are looking for a more personal level of service.
