An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is a document that provides information on the energy efficiency of a property. It is produced by an accredited domestic energy assessor and gives the property an energy efficiency rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). The certificate also includes recommendations on how to improve the property’s energy efficiency.

The EPC is a requirement of the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations and must be produced for all domestic properties before they are marketed, rented or sold.

The certificate is valid for 10 years. The property owner must keep the EPC for the duration of the property’s ownership and make it available to prospective tenants and buyers.

The EPC is not just for new properties – it is also important for existing properties.
